Comparison
Pinterest MP4 vs GIF: Which Format Will You Get?
MP4 and GIF are not interchangeable labels. The format available for a Pin depends on what Pinterest exposes from the source page, and this downloader does not convert one format into another or invent missing audio or frames.
Playback and sound
MP4 is a video container that can carry efficient compressed video and audio. GIF is an image format with frame animation but no audio track. Some content that looks like a GIF in a feed may actually be delivered as a looping video, so appearance alone does not identify the file format.
File size and visual quality
For photographic motion, modern MP4 encoding is usually more space-efficient than GIF and supports more colors. GIF can remain useful for short, simple, silent animation in compatible workflows. Actual size and quality depend on the source supplied by Pinterest rather than the name of the downloader page.
Choose based on the source and use
Keep the source format when preserving a permitted Pin. If a later project requires conversion, use a trusted local editor, retain the original archive, and confirm that the license permits modification. Conversion can increase size or reduce quality.
